Prevention through communication

In its prevention programmes, the ICRC targets in particular those people and Groups who determine the fate of victims of armed conflict or who can obstruct or facilitate ICRC action. These groups include armed forces, police, security forces and other weapon bearers, decision-makers and opinion-leaders at local and international levels and, with an eye to the future, teenagers, students and their teachers.

Social research on war

To develop new prevention strategies, in1999 the ICRC launched a programme of research in collaboration with academic institutions. The aim of the programme wasto gauges the views of civilian’s and combatants on the many facets of war and build greater respect for the rules that regulate war. By promoting the results of this research – see “Roots of behaviour in war” on the ICRC website – the ICRC seeks to build local and international momentum and expertise regarding preventive strategies, and strengthen research into international humanitarian law by major research and academic establishments, international and non-governmental organizations and prevention specialist

PREVENTIVE ACTION

Making the rules known

The ICRC’s preventive work is designed to contain the harmful effects of conflict and

Keep them to a minimum. The very spirit of international humanitarian law is to use

force with restraint and in proportion to the objectives. The ICRC therefore seeks to

Promote the whole range of humanitarian principles so as to prevent – or at the very

least to limit – the worst excesses of war

  3. Dear Waseem,
The Baloch Hal got the following response from Amanullah Rind, a spokesman of ICRC in Quetta:

    “Dear Malik,

Ortho centre established in 1997 and run by diana fund. It is not mentioned that it is funded by ICRC in 1997 but funded from almost 2005.
No doubt 2-3 expacts are supported by the local staff having speciality in their fields.
It is never meant that war wounded pateints lead a normal life, It is just matter of understanding.
The mandate of ICRC is to treat war wounded pateints no doubt but it treats the pateints effected by polio, natural leg shortning ets which is called prothesis.
ICRC planned to have health programme in Harnai which is delyed due to NOC matter with Home department and healthe programme is suspended in chaghi (sorry for the wromg information)

Note: Thanks Waseem for some correction. I hope the above clarification would be accepted for positive perception for ICRC.”
