The administration of the University of Engineering and Technology, Khuzdar took the initiative in launching an initial probe in collaboration with the local police that led to arrest of seven suspects from a nearby village close to a sensitive area. The next morning, the Vice-Chancellor, in a very bold move, took police into confidence and helped the policemen in finding levers and pins on rooftop of the building of Mechanical Department from where the grenades were hurled on students attending the cultural show.
Earlier in the night, the Vice Chancellor discouraged the presence of Frontier Corps personnel following the dastardly incident that led to killing of two students and injuries to 35 others. Since the VC had not summoned the FC personnel thus their presence was unwarranted and would not help stabilize the already tense situation. The VC and DPO also found the footprints of the culprits. The next morning, University authorities acquired the services of a sniffer dog from a private company in Quetta and sought the help of local police in tracing the culprits. Sniffer dog started sniffing from the site of incident and reached the residence of the culprits not once, but twice, confirming their involvement in their heinous crime.
Police had rounded up all the seven persons suspected to be involved in throwing grenades on the cultural show inside the University campus. The suspects are said to be involved in social and ordinary crime. However, the police sources did not confirm this initial report. Primarily who were the forces that instigated them to commit this dastardly offence against the innocent Baloch students? Presumably, they are illiterates and who suggested the vintage point inside the campus for hurling grenades and killing innocent students? Clearly some experts on security issues or on precise and deadly subversion must have suggested them to use the vintage point for attacking and killing the students.
It is the duty of the government to expose all such elements behind the scene and used the illiterates in acts of subversion and killings of students attending a cultural show. It isr the first time that police, with the help of the University authorities, managed to reach the suspects in no time as most of the other sensitive probes lingered on for years. There is zero progress in cases of extra-judicial killings of the past and the probes by the High Court judges, particularly in the case of killing of three Baloch leaders of very modest means, still untraced. The people had shown mistrust in official probe suspecting cover up and they proved right though we had the reservations at that time. It is generally hoped that the government and its functionaries will not interfere in the police investigation so that the real culprits are brought to justice along those behind this crime.
The local police officials are allowed to investigate the case independently and without any outside influence or pressure. It is pertinent that those powerful personalities behind the scene should be exposed and punished if they had instigated the attacks on the innocent students inside the University campus. The political parties, leaders and members of the Parliament and Provincial Assemblies should keep pressure on the government and its functionaries not to interfere in the impartial probe, or the police investigators are brought under pressure from any quarter.
Baloch society is an extremely tolerant society and it uses no violence against the political opponents at any stage of the political process, even in extreme conditions. Political divide had never polluted the political atmosphere in the past and there is no evidence that it will pollute the atmosphere in future also. Tolerance is in the blood of the Baloch people and they are facing oppression and suppression from the governments for the past 170 years and still they are locked in a political battle using peaceful means. No one thinks of using force against their political opponents. The government did it in the past with complete impunity and not the leaders, parties, people, political group settle their political score using violence as a means.
