Balochistan Chief Minister Serves Defamation Notice to PPP President
QUETTA: The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Nawab Aslam Raisani, has served a defamation notice to the provincial president of his Pakistan Peoples’ Party, Sadiq Umrani, who is also a member of the Balochistan Assembly, for allegedly accusing him of financial corruption and involvement in nepotism.
According to Nadir Chalgari, the Chief Minster’s lawyer, a notice of defamation had been sent to Mr. Umrani for his recent news conference in which he said Chief Minister had released Rs 810 million to his younger brother Senator Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani for centuries old civilization Mehar Ghar, hometown of chief minister.
Earlier, Mr Umrani was served a legal notice seeking explanation on his statement. However, he failed to reply, thus Chief Minister filed a lawsuit in the court of law and sought Rs one billion as damages from Mr. Umrani for levelling serious allegations.
The Chief Minister, in his statement, had categorically rejected the allegations and said Mr. Umrani should provide evidence in this connection otherwise action would be taken against him according to the law of the land.
